Best Nail Polish Trick I Know!

One of my peeves about glitter nail polish, and what stops me from wearing it too often is that it's so difficult and messy to remove. Then one day I came across a YouTube video created by Cora (her channel is Vintage Or Tacky, and it's awesome!) the trick she introduced sounded complicated, but I highly recommend you try it because it's really a time saver and reduces the mess of removing any nail polish, but especially glitter polish. So without further ado, the best nail polish remover trick I know!
Step 1:
Soak a cotton ball or pad in nail polish remover.

Step 2:
Place the cotton ball directly on the nail then wrap the nail in tin foil. It will look like this. You might need a hand with the last couple fingers, but I managed on my own, so maybe you can too. So, it will look like this.

Step 3:
Wait. There's not much else that you can do with all your fingers covered in tin foil! I waited about 5-10 minutes for 2 coats of nail polish, 2 thick coats of glitter and 1 coat of top coat.

Step 4:
Apply pressure to the outside if the foil over the nail and slide your finger out. If you've waited long enough the polish should slide right off, like this. You can see the glitter underneath and the color base polish on top.

Step 5:
If there is a little bit of polish left on the nail, you can stick your finger nail back in the wrap and rub the rest off.
This method keeps from rubbing your cuticles raw, get thick or glitter polish off easily without a huge mess, and it keeps from getting polish all over your other fingers. I'll especially use this trick when taking red polish off!

Happy Primp Removing!

  5. I just found you on Pinterest. Great nail trick. I have been putting off nail polish because of the hassle and cost to go back and get it removed. I will be trying it again now. Thanks.

  6. This is how they take Shellac polish off at good salons... better for your nail bed than soaking for 5-10 minutes.

  7. This is the correct way to remove the gel. However, you should first buff the top coat layer off before soaking them. The polish comes off much easier. Don't buff too hard and damage your nail, just enough to remove the shiny top coat.

  16. I haven't tried this yet, but I recently had my nails done in OPI Russian Navy, very dark blue. I had the worst time getting it off and it was all over my fingers. As I love the dark colors, I've always been so reluctant to use them because of the mess removing it. I will def try this method and I bet it won't be such a mess. Thanks so much!

  17. I had the shellac nails (which lasted 5 weeks!) but taking it off was terrible, even using this same method. Found out that I'd forgotten to scuff up the nails first with an emery board so polish remover could penetrate the polish/shellac better. So scuff up, then apply cotton pieces soaked in polish remover and cover with foil pieces. Should work even better.

  20. It also works if you just unroll a cotton ball and tear it into small pieces that fit your nails, dip the pieces into nail polish remover and press on your nails. Let set for a few minutes and then just slide the pieces off your nails. I know it works cause I've tried it. That way you don't have to use 10 cotton balls you can use just one :)

    1. speck135les - There is not anything you can do about a bruised toenail but wait for it to grow out unfortunately. I have one right now that is growing out and I hate it because I can only wear dark polish!
      Thanks for reading!
